The 2012 Siduri Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir is the first single-vineyard Pinot Noir release from the highly acclaimed 2012 vintage. The Pisoni Vineyard is also one of, it not the, singularly most famous Vineyard-Designated wine that we produce each vintage. In 2012, all three sections of the Pisoni Vineyard that we source performed admirably. Harvest started for us at Pisoni on September 26 and finished on October 13. Each of the three sections were fermented separately with some whole clusters used on two of the three sections. In May of 2013, we blind-tasted through all of the barrels and then came up with different possible blends, ultimately selecting a wine that included only 37% of the barrels. This strict selection hurts, but we believe it produced the finest possible Pisoni Pinot Noir.
The 2012 Siduri Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir harkens back to our 2009 and 2007 versions of this wine. It is a big, rich wine with plenty of boisterous personality. It possesses great fruit and a rich, velvet-like mid-palate. On the finish, a bit of the whole cluster character sneaks in, providing the wine with balancing backbone and tannins. Like most of our Pisoni Pinot Noirs, this wine should age well for quite a few years, with the biggest challenge being holding the bottles rather than drinking them.
